Dutchess Outreach could not help the scores of people we do each week without the many volunteers who assist our efforts. We are always in need of additional hands and hearts. Here are just a few ways you can assist…
  • Office support (phones, filing, mailings, computer skills)
  • Lunch and evening meal service at The Lunch Box
  • Preparation and delivery of meals to those homebound with HIV/Aids
  • Distributing items through our Clothing Closet and Acts of Kindness programs
  • Helping at an Annual Event, such as our Brunch, the Postal Carriers’ Food Drive, or our Coat Drive
  • Contributing to a Board Committee

Volunteer Profile

Karl DeKeukelaere

Karl DeKeukelaere

For over five years, Karl has volunteered in a variety of roles at Dutchess Outreach. He currently serves as the Secretary of our Board of Directors, the Chair of our Volunteer Committee, and a driver for the GIFTS program delivering meals to homebound HIV/AIDS patients. Karl’s late wife Susan first got him involved with the organization, and her legacy is just one reason why his service still continues.

He’s heavily involved with the Annual Postal Carriers’ Food Drive in May and the Coat Drive each October/November. As Karl says, “volunteering takes little time to help those in need.” Our thanks to Karl for all he does to help our clients and staff each week.

The air is starting to cool, prompting warmer blankets, cups of hot apple cider, and that favorite jacket to keep cozy. Fall is here and with it comes Dutchess Outreach’s annual Susan DeKeukelaere Memorial Coat Drive, sponsored by Guardian Self Storage. We need your help to collect adult and children’s winter coats and jackets, especially plus sizes, that are clean and in good condition. Last year about 5,000 coats were collected and distributed.  With your help we plan to increase that number this year.

Coats can be dropped off at any Guardian Self Storage location throughout Dutchess, Orange, and Ulster counties. Other drop off sites are Raymour and Flanagan Clearance Center on 757 Vassar Road and all Red Cap Cleaners locations. Coats will be collected at these locations from Oct. 1 through Oct.31. Coats also can be dropped off at the Rhinebeck Bank branches, Scheer Cleaners in Red Hook and Rhinebeck, and Town and Country Cleaners from Oct. 6 through Oct. 24. For more information call Dutchess Outreach at 845-454-3792.
